Basement Door Latch Replacement

November 18th, 2011

BASEMENT DOOR LATCH REPLACE
(1995 to 20?? Bounders)

1. Open door and remove the four screws at the inside latch
cover. Disconnect two rods and push handle assy out.

2. Remove plastic centering clip screwed onto ceiling inside
cargo compartment (probably broken anyhow).

3. Remove hold open air shock from door by prying open spring
CAREFULLY and removing air shock from door frame.

4. With help, hold door at about 90 degrees and push inboard to
remove door from hinge channel.

5. Remove screw at each CORNER of door moulding on side of
bad latch. Don’t remove two screws holding latch to door edge.

6. Use putty knife with hammer to break glue bond between edge
of extrusion and fiberglas door panel, inside and outside edges.

7. Above should knock extrusion off edge of door panel with latch
and operating rod.

8. Remove two screws holding latch to metal extruded edge and
save any spacers for new latch.

9. Grease new latch (available from most large RV dealers), install
and reverse process. No need to re-glue edge to door panel.

Most larger RV Dealers will carry different types of latches. Remove the old latch and match it up to avoid problems. Good idea to keep a couple spares and spare Centering Tabs. They both require replacement often.

Emissions Definitions

CO too high = Car runs rich, burns too much gas.Bad carburetor adjustment, float too high, carburetor flooding, sticking secondary throttle, leaking fuel injector, leaking fuel pressure regulator, feedback system malfunction oxygen sensor, coolant sensor, throttle position sensor, emissions vapor system malfunction purge valve, canister clogged Be aware that NOX will RISE after you fix a CO problem. This must be checked after a successful CO repair.

HC too high = unburned fuel in exhaust; car runs very rich or very lean. This is the trickiest condition because there are different causes. If the car is running rich high CO, the HC can be high also. If the CO is very low and HC is high then the vehicle has a lean misfire.

If The CO is high, fix that problem first. If CO is low and HC is high look for engine skipping, misfire due to vacuum leaks, ignition timing set too advanced, ignition misfire problem plugs, wires, cap, low fuel pressure, carburetor adjusted too lean. If you can’t find a reason for the high HC then perform balance test then compression test to check for engine mechanical problem.

NOX too high = NOX forms in normal combustion. NOX too high indicates high combustion chamber temperatures or malfunctioning post-combustion emission controls.

CO and HC must be normal before attempting to repair NOX failure. Anything that can create high combustion chamber temperatures will make NOX reading high. Engine overheating, air cleaner hot air door stuck closed, egr vale not functioning, clogged egr valve passage, lean fuel mixture, ignition timing set too high. The two main systems that reduce NOX on a car are the egr system and catalytic converter. If your car is pinging, the NOX will be too high. Pinging is a symptom of high combustion chamber temperature. If all the test readings are just a little too high slightly high CO, HC, and NOX it is likely the catalytic converter is damaged or empty. If your converter is supposed to have air injection and it is disabled, the converter will not function properly.

Make ~/Library visible

July 25th, 2011

If you’d just like your ~/Library to be visible normally in the
Finder, that’s easy too; just enter this command in Terminal:

chflags nohidden ~/Library

And if you wish to reverse that action, just repeat the command
without no, as in:

chflags hidden ~/Library

That’s all there is to it — regardless of whether you agree with
Apple’s decision to hide the ~/Library folder, there’s no reason
it has to get in your way.

Four Ways to Make Your Battery Last Longer

A good friend of mine had been complaining that her iPhone 3GS battery was holding less and less of a charge. When we got together at 5 p.m. one recent day, it was at 5 percent full — and it had been fully charged that morning. She had barely used it all day. The phone was apparently running itself dry simply by being turned on.The single biggest battery consumer is the screen brightness. But it wasn’t especially bright on this phone. So I suggested that she take the phone to an Apple store to get the $60 battery replacement service. In fact, there was an Apple store only two blocks away, so I accompanied her — and found out, upon arrival, that there is no $60 battery replacement service! There’s one for iPods, but apparently not for the iPhone. There are plenty of do-it-yourself and third-party battery-replacement services that advertise online, but the Apple store Genius, named Nicole, said none of that would be necessary. She tested the battery and found that it was perfectly fine!Instead, Nicole pointed out a few things that were contributing to my friend’s rapid battery depletion. I took notes and thought I’d pass them along.

Push e-mail. This, I believe, was the big one. My friend has seven e-mail accounts, and her phone was checking each of them every 15 minutes. If you turn off the “Push” feature, and set it to Manually instead in Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars->Fetch New Data, then your iPhone checks for e-mail only when you actually open the e-mail app. Your battery goes a lot farther. If you have a corporate Exchange account, your calendar and address-book data will similarly be updated only when you open those apps.

GPS checks. In Settings ->General->Location Services, you’ll see a list of all the apps on your phone that are using your phone’s location feature to know where you are. It’s a combination of GPS, cell-tower triangulation and, on some phones, Wi-Fi hotspot triangulation. All of that checking uses battery power, too. My friend had dozens of apps with Location Services turned on, many of which didn’t really need to be on. She turned most of them off.

Notifications. Similarly, in Settings -> Notifications, you see a list of apps that are allowed to display pop-up notifications those blue text bubbles that look like text messages. To do that, they have to monitor what’s going on with your phone — and that takes juice. Turn off the ones you don’t really need.

Background apps. Nicole the Genius discovered that my friend had a huge number of apps open — maybe 40 of them. She maintained that they were using battery power, too, in the background. Now, I kept my mouth shut. But I’d been led to believe that background apps are generally frozen into suspended animation precisely so that they don’t use battery power. In fact, Apple was criticized when it introduced “multitasking” in the latest iPhone software, precisely because apps don’t actually keep operating in the background. Only a few sanctioned features keep running in the background Internet radio playback and GPS tracking, for example.Even so, Nicole quit all 40 of the apps that were still open. To do that, double-press the Home button to open the multitasking app switcher. Hold your finger down on any icon until they all start wiggling. Tap the little X close boxes to manually quit open apps.

Did the Nicole treatment work? Very well indeed. The next day, my friend’s battery, by the same time of day 5 p.m., was still at 80 percent! So there you go: How to make your iPhone battery last a lot longer. For free. You’re welcome.

Replace Bounder heater core

99 Ford Chassis Heater Core Replacement
Posted by: “gillsleds” gillsleds@yahoo.com gillsleds
Sat May 14, 2011 6:03 am (PDT)

Hello Everyone!
My heater core needed replacing on my 99 Ford Bounder and it was not so bad as I thought. A few notes:
- The kick panel in front of the passenger seat needs to be removed,a few dry wall screws.
- The heater hoses need to be removed from the engine compartment
- The A/C hoses need to be removed. You will lose your freon but chances are if your heater core leaks by now the A/C doesn’t work either, my case.
- critical step, the bottom half of the Denso HVAC unit can acutally be pulled out of the compartment through the access door. This requires removing a few screws on the firewall and some other odds and ends.
- The heater core can be removed by pulling it down into the space where the bottom half of the HVAC used to be. In my case this required two short saw cuts in the firewall to allow the tubes protruding through the firewall to slide straight down. This can be easily repaired later.
- The Denso RV site is http://www.densoheavyduty.com/rv/hvac.php The repair manual and parts manual are there.
- The Denso distributor nationwide for parts is www.asesupply.com
- Shock of the day $50.00
The above presumes you have a Denso model. I plan to take pictures once the core comes in and I reverse the process. Send me a note if anyone is interested.
Enjoy the summer!

Move Your iTunes Library

May 10th, 2011

Move Your iTunes Library Location in 6 Easy Steps
By Gary Peters

We often have customers come into our store who have such large music or photo libraries that they are running out of space on their Mac’s internal hard drive. Luckily, with just a few quick steps, you can move your iTunes or iPhoto library to an external drive, with all the necessary files it needs to retain its neat and organized structure.

You will need three things to complete this task: an external hard drive with a good amount of free space, your Mac, and some time to let the files copy over. For this example, we will move an iTunes library from a Mac to the external drive; the same basic procedure can be used to move an iPhoto Library as well.

Connect your external hard drive to your computer.

Use Finder to locate your Music folder on your Mac, and open it to find your iTunes folder.

Drag your entire iTunes folder onto your external hard drive, which should be visible on the left-hand sidebar in your finder window. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending how much data you have to move. Moving the iTunes folder copies over ALL of your iTunes content, including music, apps, playlists, and videos.

Once you’ve moved your iTunes folder, you need to tell your computer to look for the iTunes library in its new location on the external drive. To do this, make sure iTunes is not running, and then open iTunes while holding down the Option key on your keyboard.

A window will appear prompting you to either create a new library or choose an existing one. Because we’ve moved the library file, we are going to choose an existing one. The iTunes library file is located inside of the iTunes folder that you just moved onto the external drive. The file path should look like External HD > iTunes > iTunes Library. Once you choose the library file on your external drive, iTunes will continue to look for its library here, until you tell it otherwise. This means that whenever you add new content to your iTunes library, it automatically will be stored on the external drive as opposed to your Mac’s internal hard drive.

You can now move the iTunes folder on your Mac to the trash to free up lots of extra room (Please be careful and make sure you actually have moved your music before deleting it!).

How to identify continuous duty solenoids

April 19th, 2011

Aloha:

I was correct, the solenoids are continuous duty.

The best way to be SURE is to check their resistance.

Per the “guru”, here is the info:
============================================================
Momentary relays have 3 to 4 ohms; continuous relays have usually 16 to 18 Ohms resistance.
============================================================

So just read the resistance to ensure you have a continuous duty relay…
